How to spot trend reversals for LP positions.

The classic LP trap: farming fees while the market structure breaks. How to read channel breaks and failed highs, and adjust your Meteora ranges in time.

Ever feel like you're farming fees beautifully, only to get slapped by a massive trend reversal?

It's the classic LP trap: catching the "down" but missing the "up" because the structure broke while you weren't looking. If you want to keep those yields juicy and protect your capital, you need to watch the market structure.

The pattern: higher highs, until they aren't

Most tokens in a healthy trend follow a simple logic: Higher Highs (HH) and Higher Lows (HL). You can usually draw a clean uptrend channel connecting these points.

But here is the signal that a reversal is cooking:

  • The channel break: price drops below the bottom support line of your uptrend channel.
  • The failed recovery: price tries to bounce (we call it a retest) but fails to update the trend structure, meaning it makes a Lower High instead of a new HH.
  • The reversal confirmation: once it breaks the previous Higher Low, the uptrend is officially dead.
Chart with an uptrend channel breaking down: a lower high after the break, expected and actual price action marked

What this means for your Meteora strategy

Don't wait for the price to crater to 0 before you act. When you see that channel break and a failed new high, it's time to move:

  • Prepare new ranges: if you're using DLMM, this is your cue to set up fresh, lower bid-side layers to catch the new support levels.
  • Layer cake adjustment: use this weakness signal to trigger your next layer or rebalance existing ones before the volatility spikes.
  • Tighten up: if the structure is broken, wide ranges might save you from being out-of-range, but they won't save you from Impermanent Loss (IL) if the dump is deep.
  • Or just prepare your existing positions for what's coming next.

Important: this move down will have bounces. Use these bounces for exits or rebalancing your positions.

Stop driving blind. Watch the channel, respect the structure, and stay ahead of the dump.
